Spain Travel Guide: Best time to visit Spain and Tips
Spring
Months: March - May
Spring in general is such a beautiful time, the trees blossoming in early spring and nice beach days in late May (mostly in the South.) Besides having almost perfect weather, there is TONS of festivals so make sure you check schedules and you might be able to experience one!
In Valencia they start welcoming spring with their festival Las Fallas, which are held always on the same days March 15-19. Another spectacular time is Semana Santa, which are the days leading up to Easter Sunday! It is truly such a beautiful time and festivities vary between regions but no matter where you are you are bound to have a good time. Last festival I'll mention (because there are many) but Sevilla's Feria de Sevilla, is two weeks after Semana Santa, and the week is filled with lots dancing, tapas, flamenco, socializing and traditional outfits- plus activities like horseback rides, and the best bull-fighting.
It's not a super busy time in Spring, so taking advantage of small lines up for museums, and attractions is a must!
Summer
Months: June - August
First things first Spain's coast in incredible, and during the summer season you will most definitely want to hit the beach! Just a disclaimer, in Spain summer is literally scorching hot and can get very crowded - plan ahead! Lots of local places close during the afternoon because it is too hot to actually do anything.
The Andalusian beaches are some of the most beautiful. Costa del Sol has a coastline of more than 150 km filled by the Mediterranean sea in the province of Malaga. Or hit Barcelona's seaside La Barcelona, both with family-friendly hotels, quiet areas, or a crazy nightlife! But if you're looking to have a party everyday Ibiza is the place you want to visit!
Starting off in July, is the Pamplona Running of the Bulls at the San Fermin festival, and at the end of summer in August ends off with the La Tomatina (Tomato Fight)
Fall
Months: September - November
Fall (or Autumn) for me is the BEST season ever and clearly my favourite - no matter where I am! The trees that blossom in Spring are changing into beautiful colours during Fall! In terms of weather it is the best to travel to cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Salamanca.
To kick off September, wine country has the Rioja Wine Festival and it's the best time to try the new wine harvest!
Closer to the end of Fall everyone is gearing up for the Christmas season 🎁 so there are many jazz festivals for the month of November in Barcelona, Madrid & Granada.
Winter
Months: December - February
During the Winter, prices drop and most tourist are leaving but the weather is still ideal (not too cold like Canada).
Christmas is coming and the cities are so beautiful - my favourite things to visit are the markets, especially Barcelona's Christmas Market.
And what better way to finish off the year celebrating Nochevieja anywhere in Spain but most popularly in Madrid's central Puerta Del Sol.
If you're into skiing January or February is the perfect time to go. Sierra Nevada and Formigal have awesome slopes and resorts!
